Since being sworn-in as a Monmouth County Commissioner this past January, I have been assigned to serve as the liaison to the Board of Elections, County Counsel, Division of Consumer Affairs, Division of Planning, Historical Commission, Monmouth County Library System, Rutgers Cooperative Extension, the Superintendent of Elections, and the Superintendent of Schools. Over the past few months I’ve had the opportunity to meet and start working with these departments. Here are a few highlights from the departments I work with:

The Division of Consumer Affairs recently hosted the 27th Annual Consumer Bowl, where students from six high schools throughout Monmouth County participated. Students are questioned on a variety of topics related to consumer protection. Congratulations to Marlboro High School for winning a third year in a row!

I joined the Monmouth County Historical Commission in presenting non-profit organizations with grants that are funded by Monmouth County. These grants are awarded to organizations that help preserve our rich historical sites throughout the County. It is also exciting to be a part of the different initiatives the Historical Commission has planned, including the popular Weekend in Old Monmouth. This annual event, which took place on Saturday, May 4, and Sunday, May 5, this year, allowed our residents to visit up to 50 historical sites throughout the County without an admission fee.

The Rutgers Cooperative Extension (RCE) hosts informational programs for our local farmers, residents, and landscape professionals. RCE also plays a big role at the Monmouth County Fair, which runs from Wednesday, July 24, through Sunday, July 28, this year.

With regard to the Monmouth County Library System, the newly renovated Headquarters Branch in Manalapan is anticipated to reopen to the public later this spring. Make sure to keep an eye out for their great programs suitable for all ages.

Serving the residents of our County on the Board of County Commissioners has been eventful and exciting. I have not only had the opportunity to work with our department heads and interact with people from throughout Monmouth County, but also to meet many of our hardworking and dedicated County employees. I truly look forward to continuing to work with my fellow Commissioners to make Monmouth County an even better place to live, work, and play. It is an honor and privilege to serve as your Monmouth County Commissioner.
